This strategy is not advisable for everyone. However it is a sound plan for those who work for a company that helps employees pay for their group health insurance but do not pay for health insurance for family members.
STEP 1: The spouse who is eligible for help with the cost of health insurance needs to enroll in the plan that is offered at work.
STEP 2: The employee’s spouse and/or children should enroll in a Qualified Health Plan, directly with an insurance company, through an “Off Market” portal.
This strategy takes advantage of the principle of “Arbitrage.” Many plans that are available “Off Market” are less expensive.
